Accessibility

Our Venue:

Hamilton’s Homewood Suites by Hilton is located at 40 Bay Street S, between King Street and Main Street. Entrance is on George Street. All gritLIT programming takes place on Level 2, two floors up from the lobby.

The hotel is accessible for all mobility devices. There are two elevators at the west end of the lobby. Guests of the hotel require a key card to access Level 3 and above. The Mezzanine and Level 2 can be accessed without a key card. There are accessible washrooms on both the Mezzanine and Level 2. Washroom doors are not automated and need to be pushed open. A gritLIT volunteer would be happy to offer assistance with doors if requested.

There are no stairs in any of the event rooms. Guests with mobility devices or those requiring assistance in getting to their seats will be given priority access to the rooms. Please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes before your event starts to ensure we have time to assist you properly.

PLEASE NOTE: gritLIT strives to be a festival that is accessible to both authors and audience members. To ensure they are visible to the audience, our authors are seated on raised platforms. Each author has been consulted in advance to make sure this does not pose any mobility challenges. If an author does identify the need for a ramp, one will be provided.

Getting to gritLIT by Bus:

Most HSR buses that go through downtown Hamilton stop at either the corner of Bay Street and King Street (if westbound) or the corner of Bay Street and Main Street (if eastbound). The entrance to Homewood Suites is approximately 15om from King Street and approximately 100m from Main Street. It is 400m to the MacNab Bus Terminal.

Getting to gritLIT by Car:

There are two parking lots directly beside Homewood Suites: at the northwest corner of Bay Street and Main Street (Impark) and at the southwest corner of Bay Street and King Street (Municipal). Both have pay-and-display meters that accept either coins or credit cards. Additional parking is available at the City Hall Parking Lot.

Other Accessibility FAQ:

Can I bring my service animal to gritLIT?

Yes, service animals are welcome at our venue. A watering station will be available near the ticket table on Level 2.

Does gritLIT provide captioning, ASL interpreters or assistive hearing devices?

We apologize, but we are not able to offer any of these services at this time due to budget constraints. We are looking for funding programs that will help support the costs of these initiatives so that we can start offering programming for hearing impaired or deaf individuals.
